Trail of the Lakes Municipal Utility District is proud to partner with Best Trash to provide dependable trash, recycling, yard waste, and bulk item collection services for all residents. By following the simple guidelines below, residents can help ensure smooth service and maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the community.
Collection Schedule
Trash is collected twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays, while recycling service occurs each Thursday. Residents are asked to place all trash and recycling containers at the curb no later than 7:00 a.m. on service days to ensure pickup.
Trash Service Guidelines
Residents should use personal containers ranging from 30 to 50 gallons for household waste. All trash must be securely bagged, with each bag weighing no more than 40 pounds. Certain items cannot be collected through regular trash service, including construction debris such as dirt, rocks, bricks, tile, and concrete. Additionally, hazardous materials—including tires, batteries, motor oil, cooking oil, and any liquids like paint or gasoline—are prohibited and must be disposed of through appropriate facilities.
Yard Waste and Bulk Collection
Yard waste and bulk items are collected on both service days. Yard waste must be neatly bundled and tied, with bundles not exceeding four feet in length, four inches in diameter, or 40 pounds in weight. Bulk waste collection includes items such as furniture, appliances, mattresses, and carpet. Carpet disposal is limited to one room at a time and must be cut into manageable, bundled sections. Refrigerated appliances, such as refrigerators and freezers, must be properly drained of refrigerants, and proof of service is required before collection.
Recycling Program
Best Trash provides each residence with a 20-gallon recycling container. Residents who generate additional recycling may use extra 30 to 50-gallon containers or clear bags, provided they do not exceed 40 pounds. Acceptable recyclable materials include paper products (including cardboard), plastics numbered 1 through 5 and 7, aluminum and tin cans, and glass of all colors. Cardboard boxes should be broken down flat and placed beside the recycling container to facilitate collection.
Container Replacement
If a recycling container needs to be replaced, residents should contact Si Environmental Customer Care at (832) 490-1600. After submitting the request, Si Environmental will coordinate directly with Best Trash to arrange delivery of a replacement container.
If a resident-provided trash container is damaged by Best Trash during service, the company may replace it provided that the container is six months old or newer. Residents must provide a receipt showing proof of purchase and the purchase date. Due to normal wear and tear that occurs over time with regular use, containers older than six months are not eligible for replacement.
Holiday Schedule
Trash and recycling services will not be provided on New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day. When these holidays occur, service will resume on the next regularly scheduled collection day. All other major holidays, including Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Independence Day, will follow the normal collection schedule when they fall on a regular service day.
